According to Monitor on April 15th, the Uganda National Union of Plantations and Agricultural Workers (NUPAWU) called on investors and mill owners to directly own plantation land at the 14th biennial representative conference held in Mukono to prevent traditional factories from being encroached upon and to prevent the transfer of land to foreign growers at high prices. The theme of this conference is' Rooted in Unity, Becoming Stronger '. Mr. Joram Bruno Pajobo, Secretary General of NUPAWU, emphasized the adverse effects of the current situation at the meeting, stating that "although this situation intensifies competition among producers, it also provides opportunities for illegal acquisition of raw materials, high production costs, low-quality products, low wages, and tax evasion." Mr. Pajobo emphasized that these actions have caused damage to the country's social and economic development, and urged management to conduct strict licensing reviews and feasibility studies on existing industries. Mr. Werikhe proposed a legal proposal to partition factories and require them to own over 100 acres of land as their own plantations in order to support foreign growers and reduce conflicts.
