According to Monitor on April 13th, a new project aimed at strengthening Uganda's sustainable timber value chain has been launched in Kigo Carpenter Village, with key stakeholders emphasizing the enormous potential for economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability. The project is called 'Sustainable Wood Value Chain' and aims to address key challenges in productivity, market access, and environmental sustainability, while promoting economic growth and job creation. The partnership between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the European Union aims to improve productivity. Abebe Haile Gabriel, Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Africa at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the urgency of establishing profitable and scalable businesses in Uganda's timber sector. He articulated a clear vision that local businesses should be self reliant and become engines of economic growth. He praised Uganda's political leadership, especially President Yoweri Museveni's policy of supporting local industry. At the same time, he also raised a moderate challenge, urging stricter implementation of procurement policies that are beneficial to Uganda's manufacturing products.
