According to Monitor on March 31st, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperation is undergoing structural and operational reforms in the industry. These measures include directly selecting trade commissioners for foreign missions and restoring cooperative banks. Trade Minister Francis Mwebsa stated that these measures are aimed at achieving the country's ambitious goal of achieving 10 times economic growth by 2040. Using the strengthening of national chambers of commerce as an example, Mwebsa pointed out that these potentially overlooked issues are crucial for promoting trade development, especially when the country has set itself a very ambitious goal. He said, 'The Chamber of Commerce is applicable to any country in the world, and it is purely a private sector led organization aimed at helping players effectively communicate with governments.' Trade Minister Wilson Mbadi revealed that the department is also deploying trade commissioners to Uganda's diplomatic missions abroad, a role mainly played by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The focus of other strategies is industrialization, value-added, and expanding exports in key areas such as agriculture, minerals, tourism, and technology.
