Global cement giant Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd. has invested $15 million to establish a cement plant in Zimbabwe.
Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd. has a total global asset value of over 25 billion US dollars, and its subsidiary in Zimbabwe will produce 300000 tons of cement annually.
The company is located in Hampden Hill near Harare, covering an area of 5 hectares. If it can obtain more limestone reserves, it is expected to increase its production capacity to 1 million tons.
Clement Gomba, General Manager of Huaxin Zimbabwe Limited, stated that the company hopes to build Zimbabwe into a cement manufacturing center and utilize the abundant human resources here.
Mr. Gomba said, "We will start producing at least 300000 tons of cement per year. If we obtain more limestone reserves in Zimbabwe, we will increase our production capacity to 1 million tons per year, so that we can export cement to neighboring countries
Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd. is a manufacturer of Supaset cement, which is highly favored by many construction companies.
Currently, Zimbabwe imports Supaset cement from South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi, and Mozambique.
We produce 32.5 and 42.5 grade cement for the construction industry, and we hope Zimbabwean people can buy cement right at their doorstep, "he said.
Mr. Chen, the CEO of the company, said, "As investors, we are taking advantage of Zimbabwe's good relationship with China. We have realized that more and more Chinese investors are coming here to invest
Huaxin expects to hire 5 Chinese technicians and 200 local employees.
We started building this factory last month, hoping to complete it by the end of November this year and start producing cement in December. The factory will start production from a monthly capacity of 25000 tons, mainly producing 32.5 and 42.5 grade cement. We hope to meet local market demand and at least reduce our import costs. We hope to save foreign exchange for the country, "said Mr. Chen.
Clinker is an essential component in the production of cement, which is made by calcining limestone.
Minister of Industry and Trade Mangalio Ndlovu visited the company's site yesterday and expressed appreciation for its work.
I was invited here to visit the projects they have invested in. They told us that they are one of the main sources of cement supply to Zimbabwe, "he said.
They intend to establish a cement manufacturing plant in Zimbabwe, which is clearly something they hope to be encouraged to do, as we hope to increase local production
Ndlovu stated that Zimbabwe's cement imports have surged, mainly from Zambia and South Africa, reflecting the inability of local production to meet market demand.
We are pleased to see such a company enter Zimbabwe, which is one of the world's leading cement producers
They will start operating by the end of December, "he said.
The company has operations in Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and other countries around the world.
