Beautiful Uganda, September 11, 2024- According to the Uganda alert, progress continues to be made in the implementation of the 69.2-kilometer Kampala Urban Road Restoration Project (KCRRP), with a current progress rate of 28.4% for all project components.
The initiative aims to modernize the road infrastructure in Kampala by reducing congestion, increasing traffic flow, and improving the city's drainage system to cope with floods, benefiting approximately 1.6 million people, including commuters, business owners, and transportation providers. The project is led by the African Development Bank and has received $275 million in funding. The Global Environment Facility and the Ugandan government have also provided an additional $5 million in donations. The initial plan was to complete it in December 2024, but the deadline for the project has been extended to December 31, 2027, allowing for the successful implementation of all planned developments. The Kampala Capital Authority (KCCA) is responsible for executing the project.
